Job Description

As Senior Manager, Outbound Operations, you will be responsible for leading all planning and execution activities related to outbound operations from the SSENSE Montreal Fulfillment Center. The incumbent will apply best practices to improve staff performance and optimize outbound operations processes and systems.

The immediate focus will be on Montreal within our distribution center, at the heart of a multi-million dollar automation and software investment program expected to be completed by Spring 2023. The incumbent will ensure that global processes and technology standards are clearly implemented for our Montreal distribution center.

Responsibilities

Operations Management (30%)

  • Be responsible for managing all budget, staff skills development and operations objectives for outbound operations of the Montreal Distribution Center
  • Lead a team of operational and sector managers by coaching them to ensure the achievement of performance objectives across our operational pillars of safety, customer experience, employee engagement, quality and costs
  • Establish and maintain a strong safety culture that continually promotes the elimination of operational risks
  • Apply lean process improvement methods and performance indicators to increase process efficiency
  • Advance the creation of quality improvement, process change and other lean initiatives to enable functional areas and the distribution center to meet and exceed business plan requirements
  • Focus on developing high-performing teams and rigorously deepening the succession plan for all outgoing operations by remaining highly engaged throughout the employee lifecycle
  • Define a clear vision and clarify expectations for the operational team and sector managers in relation to all of their normal work and leadership
  • Ensure the dissemination of best practices in all departments and shifts throughout the distribution center
  • Work closely with support staff (human resources, finance, real estate, security, It and the broader leadership team) to create and confirm support and resources for sector projects and initiatives, as well as provide support and resources for other staff initiatives

Strategic planning (30%)

  • Contribute to the development of new tools, processes and technologies across the DC with a focus on the successful deployment of the multi-thousand dollar Dc automation program within the next 18 months
  • Realize the optimization of the distribution center process by establishing and constantly improving all process paths of outbound operations
  • Team up with cross-functional stakeholders to implement business projects or business processes
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement across all areas and instill continuous improvement principles

Staff leadership (30%)

  • Provide leadership and coaching to hire, mentor, motivate, lead and retain a performance driven team
  • Lead hiring efforts and conduct internal interviews in partnership with department managers to attract and retain top talent in the department
  • Hold weekly one-on-one meetings, conduct performance reviews, analyze personal KPIs and assess promotion readiness to help each employee grow in their role
  • Ensure team engagement by frequently measuring team spirit and put in place appropriate measures to create a work environment that promotes healthy communication, collaboration and productivity
  • Establish team goals and track team progress toward achieving those goals
  • Collaborate with senior management to measure and track the level of team engagement and implement solutions to create a transparent, collaborative and productive work environment
  • Provide coaching and skill development opportunities for team members to catalyze growth through coaching and team building
  • Assess the team’s current and future resource needs by developing talent that can grow with the needs of the business
  • Partner with senior management to develop a resource plan for the team under your responsibility
  • Collaborate with senior management to define the department’s short-term objectives and ensure the teams’ commitment to achieving the department’s missions

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in supply chain and logistics management, engineering, information technology or related field, master’s degree is an asset
  • Minimum of seven years of experience in e-commerce, supply chain, operations or logistics
  • Minimum of five years of experience leading a team of people leaders
  • Solid knowledge in automated environments, especially Dematic and Dai software and hardware
  • Strong knowledge of warehouse and supply chain environments
  • Experience in a fast-paced, high-volume processing environment
  • Experience in an automated distribution center, an asset
  • In-depth knowledge with data visualization tools, such as Tableau or other similar data discovery and visualization tools
  • Knowledge of inventory key performance indicators
  • Excellent skills with the Microsoft Office suite (PowerPoint, Excel, Word)
  • Knowledge of SQL, databases (MySql, Oracle, etc.) and process mapping software (Lucidchart, Visio, etc.)
  • Excellent communication in written and oral English, French is an asset
