Technical Designer – Footwear

Marc Jacobs International, powered by the creative genius of Marc Jacobs, seeks a Technical Designer – Footwear to join the Design Accessories team based in its New York City (SoHo) headquarters. Marc Jacobs International is part of the Louis Vuitton Moet Hennessy (LVMH) fashion division and operates in the wholesale and direct to consumer retail markets.

The Technical Designer – Footwear will work closely with the Design Director on the design and development process for Footwear. We are looking for someone who has excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to handle multiple projects with different deadlines.

Responsibilities include sketching, CADs, preparing technical specs, correcting protos and conducting fittings.

Responsibilities:

• Partner with the Design Director to sketch out seasonal concepts, materials and techniques.
• Interpret design direction and create initial and final technical sheets to hand off to PD. Publish and update spec sheets in PLM.
• Work cross-functionally and in a timely manner with Product Development and Merchandising to determine style, materials, color and to develop a successful product.
• Conduct fittings and advise fit corrections
• Review all prototypes and market samples to ensure accuracy in execution to specification
• Use knowledge of costing and shoemaking to develop cost right product
• Create and update color cards seasonally. Create CADs for color options
• Execute printing/artwork placement, engineered embellishment placement, details, etc
• Understand the Marc Jacobs Customer and brand positioning.
• Operate within the given design calendar
• Ability to work closely with other design team members to help design a cohesive collection.
• Research and stay on top of current trends & apply trends to product design.

Qualifications:

• Bachelors Degree in Art or Fashion
• 5+ years experience.
• Expertise and in-depth knowledge of footwear
• Understanding of footwear construction, terminology and fit
• Working knowledge of pattern making
• Digital and hand sketching ability
• Proficient in Photoshop and Illustrator
• Must have basic knowledge of Microsoft office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
• Excellent taste level & brand awareness.
• Strong sense of color, fashion, product & knowledge of trends.
• Strong organizational, time management, written & verbal communication and presentation skills
