Job Description

Marc Jacobs International, powered by the creative genius of Marc Jacobs, seeks a Senior Manager – Product Development, Sweaters to join the Product Development team based in its New York City (SoHo) headquarters. Marc Jacobs International is part of the Louis Vuitton Moet Hennessy (LVMH) fashion division and operates in the wholesale and direct to consumer retail markets.

This individual is responsible for managing all aspects of sample development from design sketch through to production pass off, including multi team and vendor coordination. The team’s goal is to have accurate samples achieving margin targets and within the seasonal development budget. You will be responsible to hand off complete and accurate samples to production team, owning all elements of the sample until approved for bulk.

Responsibilities:

  • Extensive understanding of fully fashion knitwear, crochet, socks / tights, and seamless knitting with an ability to converse with factories and design team to make best product possible.
  • Full ownership of Knitwear category across Runway, Core and Heaven divisions- working collaboratively with design, merchandising and technical teams. Responsible for all communication with yarn mills and factories.
  • Swatch development in partnership with design team.
  • Ability to review full design technical packages for accuracy and improvement as needed.
  • Detailed tracking of seasonal development budget across three divisions to stay within spend goals.
  • Achieve development calendar dates set forth by Director and give status in weekly meetings.
  • Cost negotiation with vendor and understanding how to cost engineer garments to achieve a strong cost / value.
  • Partner with merchandising team on retails and setting target prices for vendors to follow at sample launch.
  • Manage development proto garment fittings; arranging fit model, taking notes, and coordinating follow up to make sure all details are passed on time.
  • Manage raw material sample yarn ordering in collaboration with the factories and mills.
  • Writing yarn Po’s as needed for Runway 2x a year and tracking status closely with a sense of urgency.
  • Successfully keep multiple season workflows organized and multitask within a creative driven environment.
  • You have an ability to influence design team for required needs.
  • Detail oriented and able to foresee issues before they happen.
  • Working within a PLM system, build and maintain the BOM from development through to bulk approval state.
  • Request and track samples in PLM throughout development process and be aware of their status with clear charts to keep cross functional teams up to date.
  • Organize yarn library seasonally and work with yarn agents to get relevant price / information needs, travel to Pitti Filati seasonally.
  • Handle category package shipments and deliveries for development.
  • Travel to factory as needed, estimate 2 times / year.

Qualifications:

  • Experience working with contemporary and luxury brands.
  • Bachelor’s degree in fashion related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in fully fashion knitwear field.
  • Comprehensive understanding of knitwear construction, yarns and mills.
  • Knowledge of garment / pattern construction with an ability to interpret sketches.
  • Knowledge of printing techniques – screen, digital, transfer etc.
  • Strong with computers, able to learn new programs and work within cloud sharing. Working knowledge of excel and PLM required. An added plus for Adobe programs (Acrobat, Photoshop, Illustrator).
  • In compliance with the Order of New York City’s Commissioner of Health and Mental Hygiene to Require Covid-19 Vaccination in the Workplace, candidates will need to provide proof of Covid-19 vaccination by their first day of employment.
