Job Description

Main Job Objective

The Senior Packaging Designer for New Product Development leads design across two dynamic parts of the fresh business (Skincare + Lifestyle). The ideal candidate is a conceptual thinker, highly detailed and excited by bringing delight to the customer through carefully considered 2D and 3D packaging. This hands-on role will work in partnership with design and freelance support to concept and develop packaging for all skincare and lifestyle launches, luxury tiered offerings and franchise expansion efforts. They will also support major brand initiatives including Sustainability and Future Thinking. This position must ensure a consistent visual approach across all programs they touch, marrying package design with marketing direction and an understanding of how it all comes together in-store. Candidates would require a demonstrated ability to create beautifully considered, branded packaging while balancing a great working relationship with all partners across the business.

Profile

Responsibilities

  • Oversee Skincare + Lifestyle programs: including custom tooled A+ launches, core franchise extensions, luxury tiered offerings and value sizing programs. Sophisticated working knowledge of 3D form design (3D modeling software not required, but rendering skills are a plus!).
  • Apply strategic category thinking to hands-on design work for our core business category.
  • Proven ability to concept, design and execute complex packaging initiatives independently.
  • Ability to grow/mentor/collaborate with our fulltime and freelance design support.
  • Collaboration with engineering and production partners on execution is essential; successfully navigating situations where manufacturing hurdles arise.
  • Flexible partner across functions and understand/be able to react to requests from partners as appropriate; strong filter for assessing impact of these choices.
  • Possess Industry leading graphic design and typography skills with the ability to develop graphic systems across a complex landscape of products.
  • Understands how product works within retail environment, and can be related to storytelling in-shop at the customer level.
  • Awareness of competitive landscape and trends is required.

Sustainability & Special Projects

  • Excitement towards sustainability and proven understanding of relevance in the marketplace – Bringing new ideas to the table and stretching possibilities for brand and it’s awareness.
  • Inspire innovative, sustainable ideas to new product along with possibilities on how to action into existing product assortment.

What you will learn (and/or achieve) in the first 6 months:

  • Apply strategic category thinking to hands-on design work for our core business category.
  • Quickly execute 2D and 3D design work to meet immediate needs.

  • Anticipate and solve for potential hurdles to keep designs moving forward – meeting all project deadlines.

Additional Information

  • Strategic thinker, developed organizational skills, and collaborative problem solver. Possess a solutions-oriented approach to challenges; independently identifying viable solutions, creating new approaches, seeking ideas and suggestions when appropriate.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Design, or related field of study
  • 7+ years working experience
  • Excellent verbal, interpersonal, and written communication skills
  • Expert in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, Acrobat), Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint
  • A portfolio showcasing fully designed suite of beauty product launches.
  • Ability to view color critically. Potential to be on press.
