Job Description

As the Assistant Operations Manager, you will be responsible for directing the day-to-day activities of your section by supervising staff and organizing workflow. You will work closely with your team to report on your section’s metrics, meet service level agreement requirements, and support continuous improvement of business processes. You will be fully responsible for activities related to functional processes within the distribution center for a specific shift.

Responsibilities

Organization of workflow (40%)

  • Supervise a safe, organized and clean work environment by following the 5S method
  • Reinforce compliance with health and safety procedures within the department
  • Provide direction and leadership to the team to manage day-to-day workflow and ensure business compliance against metrics and service level agreements
  • Be responsible for service performance indicators for relevant processes
  • Maintain and populate the knowledge base with standardized, concise and useful content
  • Develop internal processes (with database entries, reports, etc.) to measure and report on key performance indicators
  • Approve overtime and exceptional labor costs while respecting the allocated budget
  • Recommend and implement processes, procedures and systems to support operational efficiency
  • Resolve operational issues by conducting root cause analyzes to identify performance gaps and initiate corrective action accordingly
  • Execute the daily operational plan, including resource planning and warehouse work schedules, based on seasonal needs

Leadership and Development (50%)

  • Lead recruitment efforts and conduct interviews to attract and retain excellent talent
  • Oversee onboarding and training programs for employees at all levels in the team
  • Support and participate in the creation and development of training content for the team
  • Organize weekly one-on-one meetings, evaluate staff performance, analyze individual key performance indicators and determine promotion opportunities to help each member grow professionally
  • Determine the team’s objectives with department managers; support the team and follow the progress of the achievement of objectives

Process improvement (10%)

  • Proactively lead continuous improvement projects for the service
  • Conduct analyzes to identify, direct and implement continuous improvement projects
  • Foster and encourage an environment conducive to continuous improvement in all its aspects

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, business administration, mathematics, or related analytical field
  • Three to five years of supply chain experience in a distribution center or high-volume production operations
  • One to three years of experience managing front line staff
  • Flexible schedule including weekends, evenings, nights, and ability to work overtime (mandatory requirement)
  • Experience creating, documenting and instituting new procedures
  • Experience with automated processes in all aspects of a distribution center an asset
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office suite and warehouse management systems
  • Work experience in the fashion industry, an asset
  • Excellent communication skills in French and English, both oral and written
