Job Description

Chanel is looking for a Manager, Boutique Architecture to join our Boutique Architecture Team in New York, New York overseeing our Multi-Brand Boutiques. The Lead, Boutique Architecture – MBB is part of an in-house regional team of professionals that manages the design and construction of Chanel fashion boutiques in the Us. The Lead will work closely with the Group Director of Boutique Architecture (MBB) to manage the design and construction of Chanel fashion “shop-in-shops” within department stores and specialty stores in the Us. This role interfaces with a variety of internal and external teams. Our ideal candidate will have 5 years of experience and a passion for architecture and design.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate all aspects of a project with the US corporate teams and the local boutique team:
    • Coordinate with Design Architects to prepare initial location layout and organize internal reviews to validate the lay-out with corporate stakeholders and the local boutique team
    • Supervise and coordinate all design and construction activities involved with the renovation or creation of a new “shop-in” shop boutique
    • Collaborate and coordinate with Global Image team and Outside vendors to design and build sunglass “shop-in-shops”

  • Manage cost reports, project schedules, and prepare overall project quality assessments throughout the entire process of planning and construction
    • Help prepare feasibility studies for potential shop-in-shop or counter locations
    • Help prepare budget estimates and schedules
    • Collect the necessary design brief information from corporate and local boutique managers to develop the design in accordance with company commercial requirements
    • Act as liaison with Landlord’s tenant coordinator and/or architectural team, to get location drawings, guidelines and all other necessary technical start-up information
    • Assist Group Director in preparing Capex and Cost Reports and regularly update those reports during the project’s development
    • Assist Group Director in preparing and delivering project presentations and updates to senior executives
    • Visit construction sites and prepare reports, from possession, at tracement, through punch list, completion and opening, to ensure quality of fit-out, identifying outstanding issues and appropriate follow-up
    • Collect as-built drawings and keep a record of store opening information, finalize financial accounts and store data for inclusion in Global Database

  • Responsible for managing external consultants, contractors, and direct vendors on a project:
    • Organize bidding and awarding of consultants, and supervise their activities and outcomes
    • Organize general contractors and millwork contractors bidding, evaluate tender documents, and offers, and coordinate works assignment
    • Manage all direct vendor orders
    • Review consultants’ and contractors’ drawings to ensure consistency with design concept, from preliminary submission up to shop drawings and construction
    • Work collaboratively with Global Store Design and Visual Merchandising colleagues to achieve best practices and standardization across regions
    • Review RFP’s, submittals and change orders for a project
    • Assist in all aspects of turnover of stores in a professional and clear manner.

  • Lead collaboratively with Boutique teams and transversally across all departments (Operations, Facilities, It, Asset Protection, VM, Merch, Events) to understand and meet needs
  • Transmit the brand vision to external contractors and vendors
  • Strong aesthetic sense to protect the brand image
  • An understanding and empathetic awareness about the operational challenges in the Chanel store environment
  • Lead from a humble approach to problem-solving and inspire trust and integrity from our internal and external partners

Position Requirements:

  • Strong project management skills with excellent attention to detail
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Advanced Proficiency in AutoCad software, Microsoft Office applications
  • Proficiency with 3D modeling tools, like 3Ds Max, Sketchup and/or REVIT
  • Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite a plus
  • Leed Credentials a plus
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment
  • Must be an organized team player with solid interpersonal skills
  • Interest and curiosity for retail design, architecture, manufacturing
  • Self-motivated, team player, strong at collaborative working relationships
  • Position requires minimum 5 years relevant work experience in retail design or architecture
  • B.Arch or BA in Interior Design or Architecture preferred
  • Based in NY with frequent travel throughout the Us
  • 25% Travel required
