Job Summary:

As a Senior Design Program Manager, you’ll combine program/project management experience, strong relationship-building skills and a passion for UX to drive a variety of Experience Design initiatives forward. You’re an experienced cat herder, expert dot connector and savvy UX advocate who can bring the necessary clarity and structure to complex or ambiguous situations. You’ll improve workflows within UX and with our cross-functional partners and help shape the growing Design Operations function at Nordstrom.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Partner with design, content and research leads to evaluate requirements, level of effort and priorities and help determine appropriate structure and cadence for engagements.
  • Manage Experience Design delivery by facilitating kickoffs, sprint milestones, internal and cross-functional design reviews, standups, retrospectives, and handoffs with engineering
  • Act as liaison between UX and Product, Engineering and other cross-functional partners
  • Monitor and communicate status to Experience Design team, stakeholders or leadership. Proactively assess risks and remove roadblocks.
  • Foster collaboration within Experience Design team, help implement rituals, repeatable processes or frameworks to improve teamwork and efficiency
  • Ensure all deliverables are meeting UX and partner expectations, including adherence to established timelines and UX standards
  • Contribute to new and growing Design Ops function by supporting team-wide operational initiatives and sharing best practices and lessons learned from areas you oversee
  • Help shape design program management practice by applying best practices and creating standard ways of working
  • Maintain high-level familiarity with our design system, its process and the constraints thereof

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience as a design/UX program manager, design/UX Producer or other relevant experience.
  • Experience managing complex programs on an in-house design team or related environment.
  • Experience working with designers, content designers, content strategists, researchers and other Ops/Program Management roles on a medium to large UX team.
  • Solid understanding of user-centered design process
  • Ability to facilitate conversations with stakeholders and drive alignment by balancing Ux point of view, business goals and technical constraints.
  • Experience advocating for UX within large cross-functional teams
  • Comfortable in face of ambiguity and excited by the potential of a growing Design Ops team
  • Experience working in an Agile environment and with related software/tools
  • Experience introducing and integrating the role of Design Program Manager to a growing UX organization.
