We are looking for a Senior Program Manager to join the Merchandising Strategy and Transformation team within Nordstrom Merchandising Group. This team member will be a strategic partner and thought leader helping to shape and execute a dynamic portfolio of initiatives that are unlocking the future of retail at Nordstrom. This role is critical to our delivery of exceptional product and service across channels that will continue to meet and exceed our customers’ expectations.

They pull from past experience and bring a strategic mindset to help navigate, collaborate, and drive results in a fast-paced, complex retail environment.

A day in the life…

  • Bring our transformation efforts to life: Support success of cross-functional initiatives by ensuring appropriate scoping and resourcing, anticipating risks and dependencies, and easing the path to organizational adoption. Lean on past experience and keen judgement to develop a point of view on best path forward and work with senior leadership to put it into action
  • Collaborate with senior leaders: Collaborate with senior Merchandising leadership to maintain a focus on top business objectives and initiatives as well as to escalate key status updates and decision points
  • Partner across functions: Work with cross-functional execution partners (e.g., Product Management, Technology, Data Science, Process, Change Management, Strategy, Supply Chain, Marketing, etc.) to ensure alignment on delivery priorities
  • Standup key initiatives: Deep dive with business owners and subject matter experts to understand the opportunities that specific initiatives are addressing. Generate consensus around recommended approach, tools, and resourcing. Build excitement and momentum across stakeholders and leaders
  • Guide progress: Ensure milestones are being met. Where there are gaps, effectively highlight concerns, impact, and potential solutions to program and cross-functional leadership (e.g., timing, resources, budget, value realization)
  • Identify and manage issue escalation and resolution: Identify and maintain visibility to potential issues and risks across the transformation portfolio as well as size and prioritize efforts to drive resolution. Manage collaboration and build consensus around potential mitigations
  • Build a new Merchandising capability: Lean into building the team and portfolio management approaches that will make this a durable capability within Merchandising. Draw from prior experience to identify how we can improve and put it into action

You own this if you have…

  • 8-10+ years’ experience in program management, project management, or merchandising operations
  • Strong retail acumen including background in merchandising, planning, inventory/supply chain or retail strategy functions with curiosity to learn, influence and apply strategic thinking, analytical and project/program management skills across new capabilities and functions
  • Experience managing teams supporting multiple cross-functional workstreams
  • Experience executing tools and strategies to support all phases of project/program management including business case development, milestone planning, status tracking and leadership alignment. Experience developing tools a plus
  • Adept at prioritizing and planning multi-stakeholder initiatives, providing direction when needed, and removing obstacles to getting work done
  • Ability to build effective relationships, influence, collaborate and drive decisions at all organizational levels while working with both internal and external stakeholders
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to lead, facilitate, and present to large groups both in person and in a hybrid environment
  • Proficient in Ms Office (PowerPoint, Word, Excel)
  • Experience with project planning applications (Ms Project, Smartsheet) a plus
