Job Description

Summary

The Merchandising Manager for North America at Paul Smith will play a key role in ensuring that our collections resonate with the brand’s aesthetic and commercial objectives in the North American market. You will be responsible for managing product assortment, optimizing sales performance, and maintaining a strong understanding of trends and customer preferences.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the development of seasonal merchandising and buying plans with input from local management and the merchandising team in the UK.
  • Trade the product to its best potential from budgeting and range review to clearance. Use all relevant expertise to meet financial targets and to ensure optimum stock flow.
  • Collaborate with the buying and design teams to curate seasonal assortments that align with market trends, customer insights, and sales goals.
  • Guide allocation team strategies to support store planning goals.
  • Partner with Head of Buying to define product strategies and enhance customer experience.
  • Develop merchandising strategies that ensure a cohesive brand experience across all touchpoints, including retail, wholesale, and e-commerce.
  • Conduct regular market research and competitor analysis to inform product selections and pricing strategies.
  • Maximize sell thru of product through strategic buying tactics and efficient season management. Identify poor performing styles; analyze causes and recommend strategies for improvement.
  • Manage stock levels, ensuring the right product is in the right place at the right time to meet customer demand.
  • Work closely with Logistics/Ops/Planning/Allocation teams to optimize product availability and delivery schedules.
  • Analyze sales data to track performance, identify top sellers, and recommend actions to optimize the product mix.
  • Provide regular reports on sales performance, sell-through rates, and margin analysis.
  • Partner with marketing, visual merchandising, and retail teams to support product launches, promotions, and in-store presentations.
  • Act as a liaison between NYC and global teams to ensure the brand vision and commercial goals are consistent across regions.
  • Assist in developing pricing strategies, markdown planning, and promotional activities to maximize profitability.
  • Build and maintain effective working relationships with key business stakeholders – Buying, Production, Retail Ops, Ecommerce, Warehouse & Distribution, Visual Merchandising, Press & Marketing.
  • Coordinate product training for store employees to maximize awareness of the season’s collection and trends.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Fashion Merchandising, Business, or related field.
  • 5-8 years of experience in merchandising, preferably within luxury or premium fashion brands.
  • Strong understanding of product lifecycle, sales analytics, and customer behavior.
  • A positive attitude and proven experience collaboratively with internal and external team members to achieve deliverables.
  • Ability to think strategically and implement tactically.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational skills, excellent presentation skills, and positive demeanor.
  • Market awareness and strong passion for the fashion industry and trends.
  • Emulate the brand aesthetic and embody and strong sense of fashion.
  • Quantitative and analytical skills.
  • Ability to manage and develop relationships across groups and functionals at all levels of the organization.
