Job Description

Reporting to the Merchandise Planning Manager, the Merchandise Planner is responsible for driving sales and gross margin goals are met through well planned inventory and optimizing growth by creating and managing brand plans in alignment with the company’s goals. The Merchandise Planner will be focused on maximizing profitability and capturing global sales, through analysis, effective stock management and strategic activities in a fast-growing company.

Responsibilities

Merchandise Planning Operations- 75%

  • Create and maintain sales, gross margin and inventory plans for a portfolio of brands to achieve set KPI’s
  • Create supporting analysis for all high investment brands in order to identify and action areas of opportunity
  • Quantify carryover styles in collaboration with Buyers by using historical data and target KPIs
  • Review purchase orders placed by the Buying team and recommend strategic actions to maximize sales and margin, optimize inventory, and mitigate risk
  • Drive budget review meetings and present the financial strategy by brands to the Buying team as well as top management
  • Maintain in-season planning forecasts for a portfolio of brands driven from historical data and promotional activities to provide the most accurate view on seasonal performance
  • Participate in the Preseason Strategy report by analyzing and reporting on previous results; identifying missed opportunities and growth drivers over prior years as well as proposing new strategies to achieve growth plan
  • Update and maintain open-to-buy reports and report on the outcome for large deviations to plans
  • Conduct monthly business review meetings and present key initiatives or analysis with the Buying team in order to provide insights on the business and drive actions
  • Work collaboratively with Buyers to develop brand strategies based on past performance in order to meet plan
  • Participate in the migration and improvement of all seasonal planning templates in Gsheet by being proactive with proposing ideas and independent regarding technical solutions
  • Conduct ad hoc analysis based on the different business needs to drive insights and recommend a course of action

Projects & Initiatives – 25%

  • Actively partner with peers and management on the Planning team to enhance tools and processes that support planning integrity allowing for flexibility and innovation
  • Participate in cross-functional projects, working with stakeholders across the business towards collective goals
  • Coach and train Junior Merchandise Planners by providing feedback on a regular basis
  • Develop additional reports to support business needs

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, or a related field
  • A minimum of 3-5 years merchandise planning experience, preferably in the retail, e-commerce industry
  • Knowledge of luxury, retail or e-commerce, an asset
  • Advanced skills using Microsoft Excel
  • Knowledge of Tableau, an asset
  • Excellent French and English written and verbal communication skills
