Job Description

We are looking for a Sr. Project Manager to join the Merchandising Strategy and Transformation team within Nordstrom Merchandising Group. This role will serve as an executional partner to help drive large-scale initiatives by supporting working teams through project intake, planning, and execution. This role is core to driving strategic change at scale within the Merchandising organization. You will be working on impactful initiatives supporting our merchandising strategy that will help shape the future of retail at Nordstrom and transform how we compete and serve customers.

The ideal candidate has a strong sense of ownership and the ability to quickly jump in and drive results, holding teams accountable to deadlines as well as escalating risks and issues in a timely manner. They possess a desire for action and comfort navigating emerging priorities. They are well organized, enjoy collaborating with cross-functional teams, and bring an eye for detail to operate in a fast-paced environment.

A day in the life…

  • Develop and maintain project management deliverables including project roles & responsibilities definition, project charters, milestones, project status and detailed project plans by engaging with cross-functional partners to drive progress
  • Support day to day project management of transformational workstreams while driving alignment with overall program portfolio and ensure project execution supports Merchandising’s long-term strategic vision.
  • Support, manage and provide insights to help inform our ongoing program portfolio and support program and strategy leadership decision making
  • Pro-actively build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders including merchandising leadership, product management, data & analytics, technology, finance, and external contractors to drive alignment and project decision making
  • Manage executive stakeholders to drive project decision making and alignment
  • Prioritize, manage, and execute multiple projects and deliverables with minimal oversight, drive collaboration and engagement across Merchandising leaders and stakeholders
  • Work with Program Manager to continually inform, define, implement, and improve our program/project management processes and workflow
  • Provide timely and accurate insights to our Change Management and Communication partners to ensure ongoing change/comms deliverables accurately capture and consider impacts to our merchandising and cross-functional stakeholders
  • Organize and communicate complex information to wide, cross-functional audiences, both technical and business, to drive actions including updated project status and changes in strategy, initiatives, standards, priorities, and resource allocation
  • Influence project stakeholders at all levels to drive accountability for project-related deadlines, with the ability to adapt to the needs of the business and offer flexibility when necessary
  • Problem solve and take initiative in emerging or ambiguous project situations, engaging with Program Manager and Merchandising Strategy team members as needed to continue progress
  • Develop and maintain a curiosity and drive to dig into complex issues and push for resolution
  • Understand, analyze, and act on key performance indicators to continually improve project/program outcomes
  • Mentor peer team of project managers on process, project management fundamentals and project ownership
  • Manage key tools and reference materials such as our Merchandising Rhythm of the Business calendar to inform collaboration and decision-making processes

You own this if you have…

  • 5+ years’ experience in project or program management with progressively larger responsibility supporting cross-functional teams
  • Retail acumen including background in merchandising, planning, inventory/supply chain or retail strategy functions with curiosity to learn and influence across new capabilities and functions
  • Ability to build effective relationships, influence, and collaborate at all organizational levels
  • Skilled at prioritizing and planning multi-stakeholder initiatives, providing direction when needed, and removing obstacles to getting work done
  • An understanding of and experience with project management methodologies and deliverables
  • Proficient in Ms Office (PowerPoint, Word, Excel)
  • Experience with project planning applications (Ms Project, Smartsheets) a plus
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Clear and effective written and verbal communication skills
