Summary
The Alterations Specialist produces high-quality altered merchandise within established timeframes while delivering exceptional client service in the boutique. This role requires expertise with intricate luxury fabrics and hardware and close collaboration with the boutique team and operations manager to ensure accurate and efficient execution of alterations.
Responsibilities
- Perform fittings and execute alterations including hemming, mending, taking in and letting out seams, lengthening, and fine tailoring
- Construct and alter garments per clients' specifications and record required alterations
- Organize, label, and maintain client-owned pieces in line with boutique standards
- Provide styling and fitting advice to clients and build strong client relationships
- Maintain sewing machines, irons, and pressing equipment to ensure proper working order
- Work collaboratively with boutique associates and management to uphold production standards
- Finish garments using pressing techniques to present final pieces appropriately
Requirements
- Minimum 5 years of alterations experience in a luxury retail environment preferred
- Strong technical skills in specialty techniques such as leather, knits, double-face, beading, fine tailoring, and buttonholes
- Sound knowledge of various fabrics and sewing techniques and strong attention to detail
- Excellent client service and communication skills; foreign language skills preferred
- Ability to work under time constraints with a flexible schedule including late nights, weekends, and some holidays
- Minimum High School Diploma and ability to lift 15 lb; requires in-store presence for inventory handling and boutique opening and closing
