Job Description

Summary

As an Assistant Buyer in Fine Jewelry, you will play a crucial role in supporting the buying team by analyzing market trends, understanding customer needs, and contributing to the overall merchandise strategy. This position is based in Seattle, WA, with a hybrid work model.

Responsibilities
  • Develop an understanding of customer needs, wants, and expectations.
  • Build knowledge of the market and competitors in the category.
  • Establish a clear understanding of the seasonal department merchandise strategy.
  • Partner with assistant buy planner on market preparation.
  • Contribute to negotiations of exclusive offerings, terms, pricing, and vendor agreements.
  • Function as a liaison to online and/or stores, communicating the selling agenda effectively.
  • Contribute to inventory management, including driving markdowns and exit strategy.
  • Analyze and make decisions to improve department performance.
  • Collaborate with regional merchandisers regarding customer needs.
  • Partner with assistant buy planner to improve inventory content at the location level.
  • Participate in business reviews to understand the impact of specific actions on department results.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Merchandising or equivalent work experience.
  • Experience in retail merchandising, planning, or analysis required.
  • Experience supporting a high sales volume category preferred.
  • Understanding of retail and the service environment of Nordstrom required.
  • Proficiency in MS Office suite required.
  • Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills required.
