Summary
Responsible for sourcing and buying jewellery product to achieve sales and margin goals for a 12 month contract role. Leads and develops a buying team, manages vendor relationships, and oversees assortment planning, inventory and purchasing activities across seasonal collections.
Responsibilities
- Build, coach and retain a high performing buying team.
- Attend market shows and travel as required to select product assortments.
- Plan and execute the buy aligned to strategy including negotiation of vendor bids and purchase orders.
- Manage open-to-buy, inventory control, deliveries and cancellations or discounts for late shipments.
- Assess competitors, analyze buying patterns and predict trends to inform assortment decisions.
- Develop financial plans and present seasonal business reviews.
- Implement marketing plans for the department and coordinate promotional activities.
- Maintain product information and communicate with store teams for feedback and assortment checks.
- Negotiate vendor support for marketing co-op and special events and maintain vendor relations.
Requirements
- Undergraduate degree in Business or Retail Management or equivalent experience.
- Minimum 3 years proven buying experience, preferably in luxury retail.
- Sound knowledge of purchasing principles, retail math and merchant systems.
- Demonstrated leadership and influencing skills with strong interpersonal abilities.
- Confident written and verbal communication skills.
- Highly organized with strong follow up and adaptability to change.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office including Excel and PowerPoint.
- Experience managing a large number of vendors.
