Job Description

Summary

As a Buyer for Nordstrom Kid's Shoes, you will direct the content strategy, product selection, and utilize customer and trend information to support the division's merchandise strategies. You will partner with the assortment planner to achieve financial objectives and meet departmental sales volume, merch-margin-return-on-investment (MMROI), and EBIT company targets.

Responsibilities
  • Develop product plans to support seasonal department merchandise strategies based on customer expectations and fashion trends.
  • Gain expertise in multi-channel presentation, customer behavior, and competition for both FLS and Online channels.
  • Negotiate terms, pricing, vendor-funded markdowns, return-to-vendor agreements, and drop-ship programs.
  • Manage inventory management in season, ensuring effective analysis and decision-making regarding markdowns, claims, and re-orders.
  • Collaborate with assortment and financial planners on business reviews, open-to-buy management, and plan revisions.
  • Teach, coach, and motivate assistant and associate buyers to drive performance and become exceptional product pickers and business managers.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Merchandising or related field preferred.
  • 4+ years of experience as a multichannel/omni-channel retail Buyer or equivalent.
  • Strong negotiation skills and experience maintaining vendor relationships.
  • Understanding of Nordstrom’s retail and service environment.
  • Proficiency in MS Office suite.
  • Experience managing a high-sales volume category preferred.
