Job Description

Summary

The CNC Manufacturing Engineer II will advance production efficiency, precision, and technical execution for bespoke product lines at the Joseph Jeup facility in Grand Rapids, MI. This role collaborates with design, manufacturing, and engineering partners to develop and validate CNC workflows, tooling, and machine setups for wood operations. The position emphasizes continuous improvement, machining strategy, and translating engineering outputs into reliable production programs.

Responsibilities

  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to elevate quality, productivity, and reduce rework across high-mix product lines
  • Coordinate between Design and Manufacturing to ensure new jobs transition smoothly from concept to production
  • Develop and refine machine setups, fixtures, and tooling based on machine behavior and material response
  • Create and maintain setup instructions, machining notes, and tooling requirements for operators and planners
  • Lead creation and maintenance of executable CNC programs for wood operations and validate programs prior to release
  • Review tooling selection, clearances, depths, and post-processor accuracy for production readiness
  • Diagnose and implement repeatable solutions for CNC program and operator execution failures

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience in a manufacturing engineering environment with CNC programming, machine setup, and process engineering
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering preferred; highly experienced shop-floor candidates will be considered
  • Advanced proficiency with CAM programming and interpreting CAD models; experience with ALPHACAM, Mastercam, or SWOOD a plus
  • Strong technical understanding of CNC machining principles including feeds and speeds, workholding, sequence planning, and fixture design
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced design-driven environment
  • Ability to lift and move materials up to 25 pounds, manual dexterity for workshop tasks, and visual acuity for technical inspection; comfortable working in both office and manufacturing environments
