Fabric R+D Manager

Summary

Responsibilities:

• As the Fabric R&D Manager, you will develop and execute the fabric R&D strategy in alignment with our business goals and client needs. You will identify and evaluate emerging trends, materials, and technologies to keep our at the forefront of the industry. Your role includes sourcing and collaborating with top-tier European fabric mills to secure high-quality materials and leading the development of new fabrics that meet the specifications and quality standards of luxury and contemporary brands. You will negotiate contracts and manage relationships with suppliers to ensure favorable terms and reliable partnerships.
  
• You will oversee multiple R&D projects simultaneously, ensuring timely and successful completion while coordinating with design, production, and marketing teams to seamlessly integrate new fabrics into product lines. Managing budgets for R&D projects, you will ensure cost-effective solutions without compromising quality. Implementing and maintaining rigorous quality control processes, you will ensure all fabrics meet industry standards and client expectations through thorough testing and evaluation.
  
• Collaboration and effective communication are key aspects of this role. You will work closely with clients to understand their fabric requirements and translate them into actionable R&D plans. Facilitating communication between internal teams and external suppliers, you will ensure alignment and smooth project execution. Additionally, you will prepare and present detailed reports on R&D progress, outcomes, and future plans to senior management and stakeholders.
  
• Fostering a culture of innovation within the R&D team, you will encourage the exploration of new materials and techniques while continuously seeking opportunities to improve existing fabrics and develop sustainable, eco-friendly alternatives. Ensuring all fabrics comply with relevant regulations and sustainability standards, you will lead initiatives to incorporate sustainable practices and materials into the fabric development process.
  

Qualifications/Skills:

• The ideal candidate will have over 10 years of experience in fabric research and development within the apparel or textile industry, with a proven track record of sourcing and developing high-quality European fabrics for luxury and contemporary brands. A deep understanding of fabric properties, manufacturing processes, and quality control standards is essential, along with extensive knowledge of European fabric mills and suppliers. Strong strategic planning and execution skills are required, with the ability to align R&D initiatives with business objectives and anticipate industry trends.
  
• Exceptional project management skills are necessary to oversee complex R&D projects from conception to completion, including budgeting, resource allocation, and timeline management. Demonstrated leadership abilities, with experience managing and mentoring a team of R&D professionals, are crucial. The candidate must be self-motivated, entrepreneurial, and capable of taking initiative and working independently.
  
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required to effectively collaborate with internal teams and external partners, along with strong presentation skills to convey complex information clearly and persuasively. Advanced problem-solving skills and a detail-oriented mindset are essential to identify issues and implement effective solutions promptly. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word) and relevant R&D software tools is also required.
