Summary
Lead end-to-end payroll operations for over 2000 hourly and salaried employees across multiple provinces and locations, ensuring accurate bi-weekly processing and compliance. Partner with Finance, HR, IT and external providers to maintain payroll systems, controls and reporting while leading a small payroll team. Act as subject matter expert for payroll systems including Workday, Zebra, Varicent and Jira and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Manage payroll processing and audits on a bi-weekly basis for multiple tax jurisdictions and locations
- Oversee payroll systems administration, testing and upgrades for Workday, Zebra, Varicent and Jira
- Respond to and resolve management and employee payroll inquiries using a ticketing system
- Partner with Total Rewards and Finance on year-end processes, merit increases and incentive payouts
- Provide leadership, guidance and mentorship to a team of payroll professionals and manage resourcing
- Maintain relationships with payroll service providers and internal stakeholders including Finance and HR
- Ensure payroll data integrity, controls and compliance with regulatory bodies such as CRA and WCB
- Prepare and maintain regulatory documents and support audits and reconciliations
- Identify and implement process improvements to increase efficiency and control
Requirements
- Post-secondary degree in a related field
- 5 years of post-university work experience (posting lists 5-7 years) with 3+ years supervisory or management experience
- Experience with Workday payroll applications preferred
- Strong leadership, communication and interpersonal skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Excel
- Knowledge of payroll legislation and multi-jurisdictional payroll processing
- Experience with payroll reconciliations and working with Finance
- Customer service orientation with strong organizational and follow-up skills
