Summary
Entry level hollowware silversmith trainee focused on learning silversmith skills, safety, accuracy, and quality over a two year program. The role involves bench and off-bench training to fabricate and finish retail items to production artwork tolerances and company quality standards.
Responsibilities
- Assist silversmiths to build foundational smithing skills and interpret blueprints to fabricate basic retail items
- Perform soldering, annealing, cleanup, fitting, planishing, forming, and raising of metal components
- Utilize various torches, solder sequences, files, burs, sanding belts, and stones for solder cleanup and over-run prevention
- Operate and set up power equipment such as draw bench, jump shears, saws, sanders, presses, and lathes
- Hand hallmark a variety of items and minimize porosity using laser weld and filler wire
- Perform off-bench tooling tasks including forging punches, chasing tools, drilling, tapping, and threading components
- Organize work instructions, drawings, and SOPs and capture in-process images for documentation
- Verify and record daily production time on work orders and return precious metal scrap to the vault
- Provide work-in-progress updates and assist team lead in organizing WIP and related documentation
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED
- Ability to effectively communicate in English and work well in a team
- Metal fabrication experience and attention to detail
- Ability to read blueprints and fabricate three-dimensional objects
- Computer literacy and ability to record production data
- Problem-solving skills
- BFA or MFA in metals and jewelry is acceptable
- Basic knowledge of laser welder is preferred
- Advanced computer or CAD skills are preferred
