Job Description

Summary

Senior engineer responsible for administration and operational health of IBMi iSeries systems including hardware and software configuration, backups, recovery, and high availability. Works onsite in Greensboro with part-time telecommuting permitted and is required to be in the office two days per week. Role involves system monitoring, user account administration, PTF and APAR management, and coordinating DR site operations.

Responsibilities

  • Operate and monitor AS400 iSeries Powerx systems and peripherals including printers and consoles.
  • Perform system backups, recovery, and manage DR site operations.
  • Administer IBMi operating system upgrades, PTF installation and APAR management.
  • Manage hardware and software resources including LPAR and HMC configuration.
  • Monitor system status and modify jobs to maintain operational efficiency and data integrity.
  • Administer user accounts and groups including creation, access rights, and password resets.
  • Manage High Availability products and perform HA role swaps and incident management.
  • Support performance and capacity planning and produce job performance analysis reports.
  • Work with tools such as Robot, MIMIX, BRMS, DataMirror, and related IBM i toolsets.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electronic Engineering, or closely related field or equivalent.
  • Minimum 10 years experience working with IBMi operating system and PTF management.
  • 10 years experience with backup and restoration using BRMS and managing LPAR HMC technologies.
  • 10 years experience with Robot, MIMIX, IPL, HMC concepts, and HA incident management.
  • 6 years experience with PCI and SOX compliance, change management, and performance capacity tools.
  • Experience with tools including DataMirror, Dedicated Service Tools, SST, Taatool, iTera, PM400, Thenon, Tivoli, Pentasafe, Patrol, and Client access 400.
  • Ability to perform system upgrades, unscheduled outage management, and APAR handling.
