Summary
Provide high quality alterations, repairs, pressing, and fitting services to ensure proper garment fit and excellent customer service. Maintain the tailor shop appearance and equipment while communicating with customers and management regarding requests and timelines. Perform shop duties including marking, sewing, pressing, hanging, and storing garments and participate in store meetings and training.
Responsibilities
- Ensure proper fit of garments and advise customers on alterations and care
- Mark garments for tailoring and accurately pin for alteration
- Sew alterations within provided schedules and repair garments when appropriate
- Press garments and operate pressing and steaming equipment
- Maintain orderly appearance of tailor shop and keep supplies stocked
- Ensure sewing machines pressers and steamers are maintained and in working order
- Answer telephone inquiries take messages and communicate customer requests to management
- Hang and store altered and unaltered merchandise neatly and organized
- Participate in store meetings training and perform other tasks as assigned
Requirements
- Previous experience as a tailor seamstress or fitter
- Ability to operate sewing machines pressing and ironing equipment
- Physical ability to stand for extended periods lift and handle heavy garments
- Strong interpersonal communication organization and follow through skills
- Ability to provide high quality workmanship in alterations repairs and pressing
- Ability to read count and write to complete documentation accurately
- Ability to adjust priorities manage time in a fast paced environment
- Willingness to work varied hours including nights weekends and holidays
