Overview
Our client, a globally recognized contemporary women's designer house, is seeking a Vice President of Merchandising to lead collection strategy during a period of growth. Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, this New York-based leader will connect the creative vision with commercial performance across wholesale, direct-to-consumer, and international markets. The role is full time and based at headquarters, with periodic domestic and international travel.
Responsibilities
Own seasonal line plans across categories, price points, deliveries, and channels, balancing signature styles, newness, and continuity programs.
Partner with design leadership from concept through final line, providing specific direction on silhouette, fit, proportion, fabrication, color, and outfitting.
Establish price architecture and work with production and sourcing to meet margin targets and manage the product development calendar.
Own merchandise financial plans with finance, including sales, margin, sell-through, inventory, and open-to-buy. Use performance data to guide assortments, reorders, carryover, and markdowns.
Conduct competitive research and present seasonal results and recommendations to executive leadership.
Partner with wholesale, e-commerce, marketing, and retail teams on channel assortments, market preparation, product launches, and key partner presentations.
Lead and develop the merchandising team, establishing clear processes, tools, and accountability.
Requirements
10 or more years of merchandising, buying, or fashion direction experience in luxury or designer women's ready-to-wear, including 3 to 5 years in senior leadership.
Experience partnering with senior design talent in a designer-led environment, with strong judgment in fittings, line reviews, and collection editing.
Proven ability to build assortments that improve sales, sell-through, and margin across multiple channels; international market experience preferred.
Strong product instinct, knowledge of the luxury women's customer, and the ability to turn a collection into compelling looks.
Financial and analytical fluency, advanced Excel skills, and experience with merchandise planning and PLM systems.
Clear, diplomatic communication and a hands-on, self-directed approach to leadership.
Bachelor's degree in fashion merchandising, business, or a related field preferred.
