CNC Machinist-CAM Programmer

Summary

The CNC Machinist-CAM Programmer based in New York City owns end-to-end CAM programming and CNC machining for precision jewelry components in the Jewelry Development & Innovation Workshop. This role authors toolpaths and post-processed machine code, performs setups and machine operation, inspects finished parts, and collaborates with design and engineering to resolve manufacturability challenges. It requires advanced simultaneous 5-axis CAM expertise, micro-machining technique, and independent engineering judgment to deliver high-precision, low-volume prototypes.

Responsibilities

• Develop, optimize, and execute CAM programs and toolpaths for simultaneous 5-axis milling centers and CNC lathe operations
• Perform machine setup, fixturing, tooling selection, operation, and routine maintenance
• Apply micro machining and high-speed machining strategies to meet dimensional tolerances and surface finish requirements
• Inspect parts using precision measurement instruments and ensure conformance to specifications
• Collaborate with Design, JDIW teams, Engineering, and suppliers; communicate project status, risks, and manufacturability feedback

Requirements

• 10+ years of hands-on CNC machining experience with demonstrated CAM programming ownership
• Expert proficiency in Mastercam or equivalent CAM platforms and proven simultaneous 5-axis experience
• Strong micro machining skills, high-speed machining knowledge, and precision measurement proficiency
• Proficiency in SolidWorks; Rhino and additional CAM experience preferred
• Ability to work independently, mentor colleagues, manage project timelines, and apply engineering-led problem solving
