Summary
Inventory Accounting Manager responsible for maintaining inventory integrity and accurate reporting across Wholesale, Retail and DTC channels. Manage and develop a small inventory accounting team and act as the escalation point for day-to-day inventory accounting issues. Lead valuation activities including PPV variance analysis, NRV calculations and reserve processes while partnering with Merchandising, Supply Chain and FP&A. Support month-end close, SOX compliance and responses to audit requests.
Responsibilities
- Manage, coach and develop a team of inventory accounting professionals.
- Review gross inventory and in-transit balances monthly across wholesale and retail systems and investigate discrepancies.
- Develop and maintain inventory flash reporting and present findings to leadership.
- Perform PPV variance analysis, identify root causes and support forecasting efforts.
- Own NRV analysis and quarterly inventory reserve calculations; partner cross-functionally to identify slow-moving or obsolete inventory.
- Support month-end close tasks, SOX controls and internal/external audit requests.
- Drive continuous improvement and standardization of inventory accounting processes.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or related field.
- 5+ years progressive accounting or financial operations experience with a focus on inventory valuation and lifecycle in a retail or consumer goods environment.
- Experience managing and mentoring staff and providing oversight to senior-level team members.
- Strong analytical skills with experience working with large data sets using Excel, BI tools and ERP systems (SAP preferred; Oracle JDE, Microsoft AX, Island Pacific a plus).
- Knowledge of NRV methodologies, PPV analysis, inventory costing and reserve processes.
- Experience with SOX controls, audit support and concise cross-functional communication.
