Summary
The External Market Investigator oversees investigations across key markets to reduce shrink and protect team members and assets by leading complex organized retail crime investigations, providing in-store training, and partnering with law enforcement and field teams. This role conducts surveillance, develops cases for prosecution, and implements prevention strategies to improve store performance and safety.
Responsibilities
- Monitor and measure high risk locations for shrink, loss prevention, security, safety and training performance
- Conduct and support investigations into individuals associated with organized retail crime and related fraud
- Lead and close complex market or regional theft cases including field and fence investigations
- Perform mobile and static surveillance and intelligence-led investigative tactics
- Develop case files and partner with law enforcement to pursue prosecution and legal proceedings
- Provide hands on training and coaching to store managers and asset protection teams on investigative interview tactics
- Collaborate with regional investigators and store management to create action plans and eliminate theft opportunities
- Build partnerships with industry organizations and benchmark trends impacting the industry
- Use reporting tools to identify trends and initiate investigations
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree preferred or equivalent demonstrated experience
- 3+ years loss prevention experience or equivalent law enforcement or military experience
- Experience with internal and external theft investigation tactics and apprehension
- Ability to handle sensitive confidential information with discretion
- Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
- Proven execution skills and ability to drive change in ambiguous environments
- Comfort testifying in court and working with law enforcement agencies
- Proficiency with social media platforms and internet-based marketplaces for investigations
