Principal Data Science ML Engineer

As a Principal Machine Learning Engineer at Nordstrom, you will develop and implement advanced machine learning systems and infrastructure, focusing on Merchandising, Supply Chain, and Inventory. Your role will be critical in optimizing profit while enhancing the customer experience through robust, scalable, and efficient machine learning solutions.

• Design, implement, and scale critical machine learning systems and infrastructure to support Nordstrom's business.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align on machine learning platform strategies.
• Stay updated with the latest technology in machine learning to tackle complex problems innovatively.
• Work with leadership to enhance the ML tech stack and organizational performance.
• Understand product requirements, evaluate trade-offs, and deliver innovative solutions.
• Advocate for best practices in availability, scalability, operational excellence, and cost management.
• Provide technical direction and mentor junior engineers in ML operations.

• 10+ years of experience in applied Machine Learning.
• Strong programming skills in object-oriented languages and data engineering.
• Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in CS/ML/OR or related field.
• Experience in building and productionizing Machine Learning models.
• Understanding of architectural patterns of large-scale software applications.
• Deep understanding of statistical and machine learning algorithms.
• Experience with AWS/Sagemaker and GCP/Vertex AI is a plus.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
• Strong communication skills and a desire to share knowledge.
