Temporary Setter

Summary

The Temporary Setter is a skilled artisan responsible for setting diamonds and colored stones in high jewelry pieces using a variety of techniques while maintaining strict quality standards and minimizing stone loss. This onsite role is scheduled five days a week for approximately 3-6 months and may require overtime or modified schedules to support production needs. The position includes inspecting mountings before and after setting, recommending stone layouts, and recording daily production results.

Responsibilities

• Set diamonds and colored stones using pave, cutdown, bright cut, fancy prong, bead, channel and burnishing techniques
• Inspect mountings 100% prior to setting and review work after completion
• Count and record daily production results, verify work orders, reconcile stones and report discrepancies to management
• Perform self-inspections throughout the manufacturing process to prioritize quality and minimize breakage
• Follow safe work procedures, report incidents and contribute to 5S improvements at the workstation
• Troubleshoot and perform setting repairs as required; work under a microscope

Requirements

• Extensive knowledge and experience in all setting techniques with ability to evaluate space for pave and beadwork and provide stone layouts
• Experience working with precious metals, diamonds and colored stones
• Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills and strong organizational and interpersonal abilities
• Ability to adapt to changing priorities and take on different responsibilities to support business needs
• Flexibility to work overtime and/or modified schedules; onsite five days a week
• Experience setting under a microscope
• Preferred: Gemological certification in diamonds and colored gemstones, technical understanding of polishing and jewelry manufacturing, and experience with laser welder equipment
