Job Description

The Hollowware Silversmith will focus on safety, accuracy, quality and production during the forming and fabrication of sterling silver trophies, statement pieces and retail items. Responsible for utilizating manually hollowware shaping tools, silver soldering and metal forming of various metals.

Responsibilities:

  • Work safely at all times by consistently following safe work procedures for your position, as well as all safety procedures required at your worksite. Promptly report all incidents and safety issues to your supervisor.
  • Work cleanly and stay organized while interpreting blueprints and fabricating items based on the designs and tolerances set forth in the production artwork to meet company QA standards within prescribed timelines. A focus on detail, in process QA and limiting inventory failure is necessary while working on a wide size range of products where complex fitting, machining and soldering is required. Utilize multiple torch sizes and types from gas flux pin torches to large scale soldering and annealing torches.
  • Apply correct sequences of silver solder from high temp 800 to lower temp 560 to the lowest temp tin/silver solder. A complete understanding of the use of solder stop out, files, burs, sanding belts and scotch stones is required to perform all levels of solder cleanup and over-run prevention.
  • Silversmiths are responsible for the cleanup and fitting of cast, die struck, machined, spun and hand fabricated components. Comprehension of annealing temperatures of gold, sterling silver, brass, bronze, copper and ferrous metals is required. Hand form spouts, handles and other hollow components with the use of the hydraulic press, wooden dies, hammers and stakes. Hand hallmark a wide variety of items as well as utilize aluminum and steel hammers to raise and planish during fabrication and repair.
  • Minimize porosity in solder seams and castings with the use of laser weld and appropriate filler wire, rotary planisher, swiss hammer and steel planishing hammers.
  • Possess a working knowledge of hand forging of steel punches, chasing tools, snaring irons and stakes. The ability to use chasing tools, punches and engravers is required during complex fabrication practices. Utilize the drill press and flex shaft to drill, tap and thread components in order to mechanically fixture complex items to allow for the finishing and refurbishing process. Set up and operate power equipment including the draw bench, jump shears, band saw, disc and belt sander, power press, kick press, spinning lathe, machining lathe and any other tools essential to the job.
  • Detailed focus on the organization of work instructions, drawings, notes, capturing in-process images and assisting in the writing of Sops for new and existing products.
  • Participate in the bidding process, manufacturing and design reviews and product signoffs. Verify and record daily all individual production time spent on Production Work Orders, Development Work Orders, Engineering Work Orders and Tooling Work Orders.
  • Maintain a professional, positive and respectful work environment while complying with Company policies and procedures.

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or Ged
  • 2 + years of metal fabrication experience
  • Good communication skills in English, including the ability to read, write and understand
  • Good team work skills
  • Silver finishing experience
  • Ability to work independently in a high volume, fast paced work atmosphere
  • Ability to work overtime, as needed/ scheduled
  • Problem solving skills
  • Computer literate
  • Attention to Detail
  • Ability to read blueprints and effectively fabricate three dimensional objects
  • Complies with lean standards of manufacturing

Preferred:

  • Basic knowledge of laser welder machine
  • BFA/MFA in metals and jewelry
  • Advanced Computer / CAD skills
