Experienced Gold Leaf Finishing Specialist responsible for applying genuine gold leaf to wood furniture using traditional gilding techniques. Work within a workshop to prepare surfaces, apply finishes, and achieve historically inspired decorative results with high attention to craftsmanship and quality. Collaborate with designers and finishers to ensure gilding aligns with design intent and production standards.
Responsibilities
- Apply genuine gold leaf using water gilding oil gilding or surface gilding methods
- Prepare surfaces by sanding sealing and layering gesso and bole for adhesion
- Handle and lay gold leaf precisely to achieve smooth consistent or antique effects
- Burnish tone and distress gold leaf finishes to produce desired aesthetic
- Collaborate with designers and finishers to match design specifications
- Inspect finished pieces for quality consistency and adherence to standards
- Maintain a clean organized workspace and follow safety and material handling protocols
- Use agate burnishers brushes and toning agents to adjust sheen and depth
Requirements
- 3+ years of experience in gold leaf application gilding or decorative finishing
- Proficiency in water gilding oil gilding and surface gilding methods
- Skilled in applying gesso bole and sealers for optimal adhesion
- Experience using burnishers brushes and toning agents
- Knowledge of distressing aging and patina techniques for antique finishes
- Strong artistic judgment attention to detail and commitment to craftsmanship
- Background in fine arts restoration or high end furniture finishing preferred
- Portfolio or examples of previous gilding or decorative finishing work preferred
