Overview
Our client is seeking a Store Manager to lead a luxury menswear boutique in New York. This is a hands-on, selling leadership role for someone who can drive business personally, build a high-performing team, and operate with a high degree of independence in a small-format environment. The opportunity is well suited to a manager who values ownership, strong client relationships, and the ability to shape the store's next phase of growth in partnership with an international headquarters.
Responsibilities
Lead the daily operation of the boutique as a selling manager, maintaining a strong presence on the sales floor and delivering a polished client experience.
Drive revenue through personal selling, repeat business, outreach, and clienteling in a low-traffic, relationship-driven environment.
Own store performance against sales goals and help create a clear path for continued growth.
Recruit, hire, onboard, and develop a team of producing sellers.
Rebuild the sales team to create consistent coverage and reduce dependence on any one individual.
Coach performance, set expectations, and address underperformance when needed.
Build and maintain a strong personal book of business while supporting the team in developing theirs.
Manage scheduling, staffing, and floor coverage for a full-time, on-site retail operation, including weekends.
Oversee store standards across presentation, service, operations, and inventory awareness.
Maintain discipline around expenses, organization, and detail in a small-store setting.
Serve as the key in-store leader and primary point of contact with the international head office, making sound decisions without local corporate infrastructure.
Foster a stable, professional team environment that supports retention and long-term client relationships.
Requirements
Experience in luxury retail store management, concession management, or assistant store management with readiness to step into full store leadership.
Proven success as a selling manager with meaningful personal sales contribution and an active client book.
Background managing to a business target, with accountability for store or floor performance.
Demonstrated ability to hire, coach, and, when necessary, exit sales talent.
Comfort operating independently in a small-format store without extensive local corporate support.
Strong clienteling skills and the ability to generate business through outreach, follow-up, and relationship management rather than relying on foot traffic.
Operational discipline across scheduling, staffing, stock awareness, and expense management.
Polished, warm, and credible presence with a luxury clientele.
Ability to partner effectively with an overseas headquarters across time zones.
Availability to work on-site in New York on a full-time retail schedule, including weekends.
Preferred qualifications include:
Experience in luxury menswear, Italian tailoring, cashmere, or related categories
Familiarity with Madison Avenue or Upper East Side clientele
Italian language skills
Success in a small-store or single-door environment
