Summary
The Alterations Specialist produces high-quality altered merchandise within established time standards while delivering excellent client service and maintaining customer relationships in the boutique. The role requires expertise with delicate and complex fabrics and techniques, strong attention to detail, and collaboration with boutique associates and management.
Responsibilities
- Perform alterations and repairs including hemming, mending, lengthening, taking in and letting out seams
- Fit garments on clients to determine and execute required alterations
- Construct garments and other articles to clients’ specifications and preferences
- Organize and maintain client-owned pieces and accurately label and record alteration requirements
- Provide styling and fitting advice to clients and ensure a high level of client experience
- Maintain sewing machines, pressing equipment, and ensure tools are in proper working order
- Apply specialized techniques for leather, knits, beading, fine tailoring, and other specialty fabrics
- Collaborate with boutique team to support production standards and inspire teamwork
Requirements
- Minimum 5 years of alterations experience in a luxury retail environment preferred
- Sound knowledge of various fabrics and sewing techniques and specialty skills
- Excellent communication and exceptional client service skills
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work under time constraints
- Minimum High School Diploma
- Ability to lift up to 15 lb and maintain a flexible schedule including late nights, weekends, and some holidays
- Foreign language skills preferred
