Summary
The Manager, Alterations Trainer is a national role responsible for developing the technical skills and client service capabilities of alteration team members across the U.S. This role conducts technical assessments, builds and animates learning paths, delivers training in boutique and centralized settings, and drives adoption of key digital tools to improve alteration services. The position requires deep alterations and tailoring expertise and the ability to coach via public speaking and one-on-one development.
Responsibilities
- Assess technical and client-relationship skills of Alterationists and map skill levels to identify learning needs and headcount gaps.
- Partner with boutique management and People & Organization on recruitment and conduct skills evaluations for new Alterationists.
- Develop, animate and deliver the learning path, including seminars, workshop sessions and follow-up coaching for alteration teams.
- Evaluate boutique workshop efficiency, recommend equipment and layout improvements, and coordinate procurement of technical elements.
- Drive adoption and training on digital tools such as ACET, Repair and Alteration App, and IFL.
- Collaborate with learning, product and regional teams to share knowledge, improve boutique alteration KPIs and support apprenticeship programs and potential Alterations school development.
Requirements
- At least 10 years of experience in tailoring or alteration workshop roles with expert fitter-level expertise and mastery of sewing and tailoring techniques.
- Strong knowledge of morphologies, fitting ceremony and ready-to-wear products, plus specialty experience with leather, knitwear, beading and fine tailoring.
- Proven training, presentation and coaching skills, with strong interpersonal communication and the ability to transmit technical savoir-faire across skill levels.
- Basic PowerPoint and Excel skills; autonomy, planning and organizational ability.
- Ability to lift 20 pounds, sit or stand for extended periods and perform periodic bending, reaching and kneeling; willingness to travel up to 30% domestically and internationally.
