About Laureus Sport for Good Foundation USA

Laureus Sport for Good USA is a national nonprofit organization that uses the power of sport to improve the lives of youth and unite communities. Since 2012, we’ve invested over $30 million into community-based organizations, impacting more than one million young people. We support youth-serving sport programs through grants and capacity building, empower local leaders to drive social change, and organize the youth sport sector through convenings, research, and strategic advisement.

Laureus USA is part of the global Laureus network, which includes National Foundations across the world, a Global Foundation, the Laureus World Sports Academy, and the annual Laureus World Sports Awards.

Position Summary

Laureus USA seeks a dynamic and relationship-driven fundraiser to serve as Director of Development. Based in New York City and reporting to the Executive Director, this role will lead the Development Department and oversee the organization’s fundraising strategy and execution across individual, foundation, and corporate giving.

The Director will be responsible for stewarding and growing existing donor and funder relationships, building new partnerships, and developing a more robust and sustainable fundraising pipeline. Building individual giving, particularly among high-net-worth donors, will be a key growth priority alongside managing existing grants and expanding foundation and corporate support.

The Director will manage a small team and serve on Laureus USA’s national leadership team. This position requires strong external relationship-building skills, the ability to translate strategy into results, and a collaborative approach to leading staff and aligning fundraising with broader organizational priorities.

Key Responsibilities

Development Strategy and Department Leadership

  • Lead the Development Department, setting priorities and overseeing fundraising strategy and execution across individual, foundation, and corporate giving.
  • Develop and implement an annual development plan, with clear revenue goals, donor engagement strategies, and responsibilities for the team.
  • Partner with the Executive Director on fundraising priorities and strategy and engagement for major donors and prospects.
  • Oversee donor records, pipeline tracking, and fundraising performance reporting, using data to assess progress and adjust strategies.
  • Work with Finance to align fundraising goals, revenue projections, and departmental spending with the organizational budget.

Fundraising and Donor Management

  • Grow and manage a portfolio of donors and prospects across individual, foundation, and corporate giving.
  • Cultivate, solicit, and close gifts through thoughtful and strategic donor engagement.
  • Lead donor relationships through the full lifecycle, from identification and cultivation to solicitation and stewardship.
  • Engage the Board of Directors, Athlete Council, and broader athlete community to support introductions, cultivation, and fundraising opportunities.

Individual Giving Strategy and Growth

  • Lead the development and execution of Laureus USA’s individual giving strategy, with a focus on building and growing high-net-worth donor support.
  • Identify and pursue opportunities to expand the individual donor pipeline and increase donor retention and giving over time.
  • Develop compelling cases for support and engagement strategies tailored to individual donors.
  • Establish systems and approaches that support sustained growth in individual philanthropy.

Foundation and Corporate Giving

  • Lead Laureus USA’s foundation and corporate fundraising efforts, including stewardship of existing funders and development of new partnerships.
  • Identify and cultivate prospective foundation and corporate partners whose priorities align with Laureus USA’s mission and strategic goals.
  • Oversee grant proposals, funding requests, and partnership agreements, working with the Executive Director and relevant staff.
  • Manage existing grant and partnership commitments, coordinating with Programs and Finance to ensure timely reporting, accurate budgets, and fulfillment of funder requirements.
  • Develop strategies for grant renewals, expanded funding, and longer-term foundation and corporate partnerships.

Events and Donor Engagement

  • Lead the fundraising strategy for cultivation events and major fundraising moments, establishing clear goals and plans for donor engagement.
  • Support event planning and execution in partnership with the broader team.
  • Engage donors before, during, and after events to deepen relationships and drive giving.
  • Participate in evening and weekend events as needed.

Team Management

  • Manage, coach, and support growing staff, establishing clear roles, goals, and expectations aligned with departmental priorities.
  • Provide regular feedback and support professional development and performance management.
  • Coordinate team workloads and build a collaborative environment with clear accountability for results.

Partnership and Organizational Leadership

  • Serve as a member of Laureus USA’s national and city-based leadership team, contributing to organizational strategy, planning, and decision-making.
  • Work closely with marketing and communications staff to align fundraising messages and donor engagement with broader communications efforts.
  • Collaborate with program staff to communicate impact and connect donors and funders to Laureus USA’s work.
  • Engage regularly with Board members and support their fundraising and relationship-building efforts.
  • Contribute to a collaborative, high-performing team environment across the organization.

Candidate Attributes

  • At least 10 years of relevant experience in development, fundraising, or related external-facing roles.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and executing fundraising strategies across individual, foundation, and corporate giving, with a track record of managing relationships and securing funding.
  • Experience working with high-net-worth individuals and building individual giving programs or donor pipelines.
  • Experience managing foundation and corporate relationships, including proposals, grant reporting, renewals, and partnership development.
  • Experience supervising staff, setting clear goals, and supporting team performance and professional growth.
  • Strong interpersonal presence, with the ability to build trust and credibility with donors, funders, Board members, and other senior stakeholders.
  • Ability to balance departmental leadership with hands-on fundraising and relationship management.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, including experience using donor management systems to track activity, manage pipelines, and assess progress.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to equity and inclusion across all forms of diversity and difference.

What You Can Expect

Laureus USA is a high-performing team with a strong track record of impact, national partnerships, and engagement from some of the world’s most recognized athletes. As part of this team, you can expect a collaborative environment where individuals take ownership of their work while also stepping in to support broader organizational priorities as needed.

This role offers the opportunity to lead Laureus USA’s Development Department and strengthen fundraising across individual, foundation, and corporate giving. You will work closely with the Executive Director, lead a team of two staff members, and help shape the strategies and systems needed to achieve the organization’s annual fundraising goals and support long-term growth. You will also have opportunities to engage Laureus USA’s Athlete Council and broader athlete network as part of donor cultivation and engagement.

The role is highly external-facing and will require regular engagement with donors and partners, as well as participation in events, including some evenings and weekends.

Compensation

The expected compensation for this role is $130,000 to $140,000, along with a performance-based bonus and comprehensive benefits package. Final compensation will be determined based on experience, skills, and alignment with the qualifications and attributes of the role.
