Summary
Senior Real Estate Counsel based in New York supporting the U.S. and Canadian business with regional legal support for LATAM. Acts as a key legal partner advising on complex commercial real estate and construction matters across a luxury brand portfolio. Balances legal risk with commercial objectives and helps drive the company’s real estate strategy.
Responsibilities
- Draft, negotiate and support commercial real estate and retail/office leasing transactions, including leases, amendments, terminations, subleases, assignments, estoppels, SNDAs, letters of credit and guarantees.
- Negotiate and provide legal support for construction-related agreements, including architect, general contractor, supplier and subcontractor agreements, and handle lien resolution matters.
- Manage the regional retail lease portfolio and assist with dispute resolution and real estate-related pre-litigation and litigation matters.
- Collaborate with Real Estate, Brand, Finance, Store Planning, Procurement, Lease Administration and other stakeholders to execute leasing strategy and provide lease interpretation guidance.
- Develop and maintain real estate agreement standards, templates and processes, and oversee outside leasing and construction counsel.
Requirements
- Approximately 10+ years hands-on experience as real estate leasing counsel; both external law firm and in-house experience preferred.
- Advanced legal knowledge of commercial real estate and construction contracts; retail experience strongly preferred.
- JD from an ABA-accredited law school and membership in good standing in at least one state bar; preferably admitted in New York or ability to register as in-house counsel in New York.
- Strong organizational, communication, negotiation and project management skills; ability to handle confidential information and manage multiple leasing matters concurrently.
