Reporting to the Director, Fulfillment Operations, the Senior Manager, Outbound Operations is responsible for directing all activities related to Outbound Operations planning and execution at the SSENSE fulfillment center in Montreal. The incumbent will implement best practices to improve people, processes and systems in outbound operations.
Immediate focus will be in Montreal within our Fulfillment Center, the heart of a multi-million dollar automation and software investment program due for completion by Spring 2023. The incumbent will ensure global processes and technology standards are clearly implemented for our Montreal Fulfillment Center.
Responsibilities
Operations Management (30%)
- Responsible for managing all budgetary, people development, and operations objectives for Outbound Operations within the Montreal FC
- Lead a team of Operations and Area Managers, mentoring them to ensure performance objectives are met across our operational pillars of Safety, Customer Experience, Employee Engagement, Quality, and Cost
- Establish and maintain a strong safety culture that continuously seeks to eliminate risks from the operation
- Apply lean process improvement methodologies and performance metrics to increase efficiency within processes
- Drive creation of quality initiatives, process change initiatives, and other lean initiatives to enable functional area and the fulfillment center to meet and exceed business plans
- Focus on developing high performing teams, develops robust succession depth across the Outbound Operations with a high involvement in the end-to-end employee lifecycle
- Set a clear vision and clarify expectations for Operations and Area Managers across all elements of their leadership standard work
- Ensure best practices are shared across all departments and shifts across the Fulfillment Center
- Work closely with support staff (HR, Finance, Real Estate, Safety, It and the broader Fc Leadership team to build and secure support and resources for projects and initiatives in their area, as well as providing needed support and resources for other staff initiatives
Strategic Planning (30%)
- Contribute to the development of new tools, processes and technology across the overall FC, with a specific focus over the next 18 months on the successful deployment of the FC’s multi-million dollar automation programme
- Drive FC process optimization by implementing and continuously improving all process paths within the Outbound Operations
- Partner with cross-functional stakeholders to implement operational projects and/or processes
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement in all areas and instill continuous improvement principles
People leadership (30%)
- Provide leadership and guidance to hire, coach, motivate, lead, and retain a performance-driven team
- Lead hiring efforts and conduct internal interviews in partnership with the department managers to attract and retain top talent within the department
- Hold weekly one-on-ones, conduct performance reviews, analyze individual KPIs and assess promotion readiness to help each contributor evolve in their roles
- Ensure team mobilization by regularly gauging team spirit and implementing appropriate means to create a work environment that fosters healthy communication, collaboration and productivity
- Establish team goals and monitor team’s progress towards achieving objectives
- Work with Senior Leadership to gauge and monitor team engagement and implement solutions to create a transparent, collaborative and productive work environment
- Provide mentorship and development opportunities for team members, catalyzing growth through coaching and team building
- Assess current and future team resource needs while developing talent that can scale with the needs of the business
- Partner with Senior Leaders to establish the Resource Plan for the direct team
- Collaborate with Senior Leadership to establish the short term objectives for the department and ensure team’s are engaged towards achieving the department’s missions
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain and Logistics Management, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field; Master’s degree an asset
- 7+ years of e-commerce, supply chain, operations, or logistics experience
- A minimum of 5 years experience leading a team of people leaders
- Strong experience of working within automated environments, specifically Dematic and Dai software and hardware
- Strong knowledge of warehousing and supply chain environments
- Experience in a high volume, fast paced environment
- Experience in an automated fulfillment center an asset
- Advanced skills in working with data visualization tools such as Tableau or similar data discovery and visualization tools
- Knowledge of key inventory performance metrics
- Excellent skills in Microsoft Office Suite (PowerPoint, Excel, Word)
- Knowledge of Sql and databases (MySql, Oracle, etc.) and process mapping software (Lucidchart, Visio, etc.)
- Excellent English written and verbal communication skills, French an asset
